Athletic Brewing Ready Front Review

Looks

Ready Front pours a straw yellow color with a medium amount of haze and carbonation. There is not much of a foam head and it has quite a poor retention.

Aroma

Wow, this non-alcoholic smells super hoppy. I could smell the hops as soon as I cracked open the can, which is something I expect in a good IPA.

The aroma is grassy with juicy tropical fruits and citrus orange hops. The description mentions pine, but I was not able to get any notes of pine.

Taste

On the palate, I detect some grassy notes with citrus and mango mid-sip. It feels light and refreshing, with a medium body that does not feel too thin.

If you are a looking for a bitter non-alcoholic IPA, Ready Front hits the mark. The hop bitterness is fairly strong, which makes sense considering it measures 50 IBUs (International Bitterness Units). There is also a fair amount of malt sweetness as well, so it does not feel like one note of bitterness.

The finish is a bit citrusy and sour, which I found a little lip smacking.

Athletic Brewing Ready Front Ingredients

Ready Front is made with water, malted barley, a blend from Yakima Chief hops, wheat, and yeast.

Final Verdict Of Our Athletic Brewing Ready Front Review

Athletic Brewing has done it again with this seasonal offering. Like many of their other beers, it’s nearly impossible to tell Ready Front apart from an alcoholic beer.

I found the body to be satisfyingly heavy without being overwhelming. Plus, the flavor notes are complex, ranging from bitter hoppiness to sweet malts and mango, and it finishes with some sour lemon notes. This is definitely not a one-note NA beer!

If I had to nitpick, I’d say that I would have liked to see a more impressive foram head. Some of the photos online make it seem like it has a decent head, but I didn’t get much of anything when I poured.

Great For:

  • IPA fans will definitely love this one.

Not Recommended For:

  • If you’re not a fan of bitter beers, watch out! This one is strong.
