Cēsu Alus is one of Latvia’s most popular brewery, and they brew a non-alcoholic pilsner called Cēsu Brūža Nefiltrētais Bezalkoholisks. While traveling in Riga, the capital city of Latvia, we had the chance to try this pilsner.

Read on for our tasting notes in this Cesu Bruza Nefiltretais Bezalkoholiskais review.

A Quick Look At Cesu Bruza Nefiltretais Bezalkoholiskais

Cesu Bruza Nefiltretais Bezalkoholiskais is a non-alcoholic pilsner from Latvia’s oldest and largest brewery, Cēsu Alus. Cēsu Alus was founded in 1590 in Cēsis, Latvia, although the brewery was sold to Finnish drinks producer Olvi in 1999.

This pilsner is unfiltered and has 15 IBU (International Bitterness Units), which means it is going to be light on the bitterness.

Recommended Beer Glass: We recommend drinking Cesu Bruza Nefiltretais Bezalkoholiskais with a pilsner glass. Pilsner glasses are made specially for pilsners and have a tall and tapered body.

Cesu Bruza Nefiltretais Bezalkoholiskais Review

Looks

This pilsner pours a hazy golden-amber color with a decent two-finger egg white foam head. There is not much visible carbonation.

Aroma

On the nose, there is a strong aroma of pilsner malts, some floral and grassy notes, and malt sweetness. Thankfully, it does not have a “wet basement” damp smell that many supermarket non-alcoholic beers have.

Taste

The taste is mostly cereal malts with some herbal grassiness, which reminds me of a breakfast cereal like a Cap’n Crunch or a Cheerios.

There is a lingering sourness which gets stronger the more drink, some malt sweetness, and almost no hop bitterness.

On the palate, the mouthfeel feels flat without carbonation. The finish is dry.

Cesu Bruza Nefiltretais Bezalkoholiskais Ingredients

Cesu Bruza Nefiltretais Bezalkoholiskais is made with water, barley malt, hops, yeast, and preservative (sodium benzoate).

Final Verdict Of Our Cesu Bruza Nefiltretais Bezalkoholiskais Review

So far, our trip to Latvia hasn’t wowed us with the non-alcoholic beer options. Kokmuiza Celmlauzis Non-Alcoholic IPA was the other local non-alcoholic beer that we tried in Latvia, and it did not impress as well.

Cesu Bruza Nefiltretais is a very average tasting non-alcoholic supermarket pilsner with not much to like or dislike. It did not wow us, but neither did it make us want to pour down the drain. The sourness was a little off-putting though, and the beer could use more carbonation because it felt quite flat on the palate.

Great For:

  • If you’re looking for a cheap NA Pilsner in Latvia

Not Recommended For:

  • Those who prefer cleaner and crispier NA Pilsners
