I’ve tried many non-alcoholic beers from the UK, but never from Scotland. Jump Ship Brewing is the first Scottish non-alcoholic brewery founded in 2018, and I’m excited to try their flagship beer, the Yardarm alcohol-free lager.

Like all of Jump Ship’s beer cans, Yardarm sticks to the nautical them and features nautical flags. Frankly, I love the design of the can. Now let’s see if I love the taste as well, as I share my tasting notes in this Jump Ship Brewing Yardarm review.

A Quick Look At Jump Ship Brewing Yardarm Lager

Yardarm is a non-alcoholic lager from Scottish non-alcoholic brewery, Jump Ship Brewing. This lager was their first NA beer to launch, and it has won the Bronze award at the World Alcohol Free Awards 2023.

One of the things unique about Jump Ship Brewing beers is the use of soft Scottish water. I enjoy how it brings a bit of local “Scottishness” to the beer, giving me a sense of connection to their land when I have a sip.

Yardarm is gluten free (less than 20 parts per million of gluten) and vegan friendly too, so it is a great beer option if you’re avoiding gluten or animal derived ingredients.

Looks

Yardarm lager pours a clear amber yellow color with lots of bubbly carbonation. The foam head is pretty decent with medium retention, and it settles to a foam lace around the glass.

Aroma

On the nose, it smells hoppier than other non-alcoholic lagers. I can smell citrus orange, floral, and wheaty malts. There is also a note of malt sweetness in the aroma.

Taste

Like any good pilsner, I can taste the clean biscuit malt backbone and some floral grassiness. The citrus orange is subtle on the palate, and it has just the right amount of hops to make this lager interesting.

The body is light if a little watery, while the bubbles are soft and not gassy, thankfully. One of the things I dislike when I’m tasting a beer is overly gassy carbonation.

The finish is dry with a slight bitterness.

Jump Ship Brewing Yardarm Ingredients

Jump Ship Brewing Yardarm is brewed with water, barley, maltodextrin, Citra and Styrian Bobek hops, and yeast.

Final Verdict Of Our Jump Ship Brewing Yardarm Review

As a regular Pilsner drinker, I like how Jump Ship Yardam Lager rocks a hoppy twist, giving it a bolder flavor that’s not your usual lager vibe. It has the classic biscuity malt backbone with just the right amount of citrus orange notes to make things interesting.

My only gripe is the body which felt a little too watery and thin for my liking. For this reason, it remains an average tasting non-alcoholic Pilsner.

Good For:

  • If you’re looking for a light and crisp lager for a hot day

Not Recommended For:

  • Those who prefer fuller bodied lagers
