After reviewing Leffe Blonde 0.0, it’s time we review Leffe’s non-alcoholic brown ale. When you think of Belgian beers, Leffe is right on top in terms of taste and value.
Leffe’s origins trace back to the abbey monks who initially crafted it. While Leffe is no longer produced by those monks and the abbey continues to receive royalties from AB InBev as a licensee, Leffe beers still maintain their reputation for exceptional quality.
In this Leffe Brown 0.0 review, I’ll delve into our tasting notes of this non-alcoholic Belgium brown ale.
A Quick Look At Leffe Brown 0.0
Leffe Brown 0.0 is a non-alcoholic version of traditional Belgian Brown Ale. Belgian Brown Ales are dark beers with typically more malts than hops, and the flavors are often described as toasty or chocolatey.
Just like its alcoholic counterpart Leffe Brune (6.5% ABV), Leffe Brown 0.0 is a dark abbey beer that is strong on the roasted malt and caramel.
Recommended Beer Glass: We recommend drinking Leffe Brown 0.0 out of a Leffe glass, tulip glass, or a pint glass. Brown ales tend to be sweet and malty, and a tulip or pint glass will enhance the aroma. Serve Leffe Brown 0.0 chilled at 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
Leffe Brown 0.0 Review
Looks & Aroma
Leffe Brown 0.0 pours* a dark red-brown chestnut color with a one-inch foam head. The retention of the head is quite moderate, and the foam head quickly dissipates into a thinner foam lacing around the glass.
*We had to use a wine glass because we’re traveling and that’s the only glass available in our AirBnB.
On the nose, the aroma is rather light, but we get whiffs of roasted malts that remind me of roasted chestnuts.
There are some notes of chocolate and caramel. I’m a little disappointed the aroma isn’t as aromatic and strong as hoped.
Taste
The flavor profile is more complex than the aroma led us to believe. On the palate, we can taste the roasted malts, caramel, and the malt sweetness.
There is a smoothness to the body, and even though the body is lighter and softer than expected, it doesn’t actually feel watery (although you might not like it as much if you prefer heavier beers).
In terms of sweetness, the malt sweetness is well balanced with the hop bitterness. It doesn’t feel too sweet or sticky. Likewise, the hop bitterness is moderate and lingers, but it doesn’t feel overpowering.
Leffe Brown 0.0 Ingredients
Leffe Brown 0.0 is made from water, barley malt, maize, barley, sugar, hops, and natural aromas. We are not too excited to see added sugar and natural aromas in the ingredients list.
