Old Milwaukee, Budweiser, PBR, Miller, and Coors are the five classic American beers known for being cheap, easily accessible, and light.
Having tried Bud Zero and Coors Edge, I wasn’t particularly excited to try Old Milwaukee non-alcoholic beer. But heck, at $2+ per can, it’s an unbeatable price for a non-alcoholic beer.
Read on for my tasting notes and discover what I liked and didn’t like about this NA beer.
Old Milwaukee Non-Alcoholic Review
Looks
Old Milwaukee non-alcoholic beer pours a clear, very light, pale yellow color resembling a typical lager.
While not overly carbonated, it has a surprisingly beautiful two-inch foam head with good retention.
Aroma
On the nose, I can smell lots of bready malts with some sweetness. There is also a light hint of corn.
Taste
No surprises here—Old Milwaukee non-alcoholic tastes like your classic American lager. The flavor is gentle, featuring light, grainy malt notes, almost leaning towards a malt drink rather than a beer.
Additionally, there’s a subtle touch of sweetness from the malts with no hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel
The body is light and crisp, just as I would expect from a classic lager like Old Milwaukee.
It goes down easily with a dry finish, making this one of those non-alcoholic beers that I can imagine being very drinkable on a hot summer day.
Final Verdict of Old Milwaukee Non-Alcoholic Beer
For a non-alcoholic mass-market lager, Old Milwaukee non-alcoholic is not too bad; I would say it tastes better than an O’Doul’s or a Bud Zero.
While it might not be the most flavorful non-alcoholic beer I’ve tried, it hits the spot as an affordable lager with no weird aftertaste. However, I feel like it lacks some depth in the flavors.
Overall, it doesn’t taste bad, but it does taste like a cheap beer—which, to be fair, is exactly how the regular Old Milwaukee tastes to me.
What I Loved:
- It hits the spot when I need a quick light beer fix without the alcohol.
- The price is affordable for most.
What I Did Not Like:
- The flavor is quite one-dimensional. If I’m craving a light beer or a lager, I would prefer drinking an Athletic Lite or Gruvi Golden instead.
