One line of non-alcoholic beverages I’ve fallen in love with is Hoplark HopTea. This is now the fourth flavor I’ve tried and it seems like I like each one more than the one before it.

Here are my tasting notes in this Hoplark HopTea The Green Tea One review.

A Quick Look At Hoplark HopTea The Green One

If you’ve never heard of hop tea before, don’t worry, you’re not alone. All it is is a blend of tea and hops.

The hops are brewed as they would be for beer making, just without the fermentation. Next, they’re combined with a tea base to create the final product.

Some flavors, like The Green Tea One and The Really Hoppy One, are made using naturally-caffeinated teas. Others, like The Mile-High-Biscus One and The Calm One (links to my individual reviews), are brewed with herbal ingredients to create caffeine-free varieties.

Looks & Aroma

The Green Tea One pours a slightly hazy light yellow color and has tons of carbonation.

As this is closer to tea than beer, I wasn’t expecting much in the way of the head and that assumption proved correct. The bubbles simply came to the surface, then popped.

In terms of aroma, my nose picked up a familiar hoppy smell. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve tried so many hop teas and seltzers at this point, but I knew I’d smelled this particular variety before.

Hoplark says that the aroma is juicy and fruity, but I found it to be more piney.

Taste

I instantly noticed the mellow green tea. It had notes of rice and grass that paired well with the berry flavors from the Mosaic hops.

It finished with some notes of pine. Hoplark claims that there are also some bubblegum notes at the finish, but I didn’t taste them.

Compared to the other flavors I’ve tried, The Green Tea One has the best balance of flavors.  The green tea and the hops shared the spotlight equally, resulting in a tasty experience.

The Green One ingredients

Hoplark uses just a few ingredients in its hop teas. These include carbonated water, hops, and either tea or herbs (depending on the flavor).

As you might expect, The Green Tea One contains green tea. More specifically, an organic Imperial Green Tea. Imperial green tea is a pure, antioxidant-rich, green tea blend that’s naturally low in caffeine.

In addition to green tea, The Green Tea One contains Mosaic hops. This variety is known for its complex flavor profile containing a mixture of berries, tropical fruit, and citrus.

The Green Tea One Nutrition & Calories

No matter how many hop teas I try, I can’t get over the fact that they’re calorie-, sugar-, and carb-free.

Truly, like the other varieties, The Green Tea One is bursting with flavor and yet contains absolutely nothing. It’s basically like a zhuzhed up water with a little caffeine kick.

I try to avoid sugary and caloric drinks whenever possible, but I often get sick of plain water, so The Green Tea One is the exact type of drink I look out for when I’m in the mood for something different.

Final Verdict Of Hoplark HopTea The Green Tea One

As I mentioned in the intro, I’ve now tried four of Hoplark’s hop teas. I’m pretty sure that qualifies me to weigh in on which flavors I like best. And I have to say, The Green Tea One is up there.

I loved the blend of green tea and hops that The Green Tea One offers up. Neither flavor was too strong. Rather, they balanced each other out perfectly.

Not only did each flavor get a chance to shine, but together they created a symbiotic flavor experience that worked perfectly. This flavor was also the most carbonated of the bunch, creating a pleasurable drinking experience that more than quenched my thirst.

Perhaps the only downside for me is the caffeine. While I appreciate that it’s organic and naturally occurring, I do try to limit how much I drink each day. My morning coffee is a non-negotiable, so fitting this into my daily drink routine was a bit of a stretch.

I ended up drinking it at about 11 AM after a tough workout and I’m pretty sure that’s about the only time I could make The Green Tea One work without disrupting my sleep or leaving me with the jitters.

Great For:

  • People who like mellow flavors
  • If you aren’t super sensitive to caffeine

Not Recommended For:

  • If you’re trying to avoid caffeine

Other Hoplark HopTea The Green Tea One FAQs

Does Hoplark Hoptea The Green Tea One taste like beer?

The hops in hop teas are brewed using the same technique that’s used for brewing beer, but I didn’t find that The Green Tea One tasted much like beer.

There was definitely some bitterness from the hops, but I found it pretty mild compared to the level you’d find in an IPA or a pale ale.

Overall, the green tea flavor is really what stood out for me. That’s not to say that it dominated the flavor profile, just that The Green Tea One is closer to a tea than it is to a beer.

Does Hoplark Hoptea The Green Tea One contain any alcohol?

Hopteas were born out of a desire to create great-tasting, alcohol-free drinks. As such, none of Hoplark’s products contain any traces of alcohol. In other words, they have 0.0% ABV.

It’s worth noting that a lot of the non-alcoholic beers and wines we review on One Club Sober do contain trace amounts of alcohol (<0.5% ABV), so the hop teas are pretty unique in that they’re completely alcohol-free.

Understanding the difference between 0.0% and 0.5% ABV can get a little tricky, so if you’re confused, check out our article about the differences between the two.

How much caffeine is in Hoplark HopTea The Green Tea One?

The Green Tea One is made using green tea, a naturally-caffeinated product. It contains 60mg of caffeine per 16oz (473mL) serving.

As a comparison, 16 ounces of brewed green tea (loose-leaf or bagged) contains 60 to 100mg of caffeine. That puts The Green Tea One on the lighter end of the caffeine spectrum.

Is Hoplark Hoptea The Green Tea One gluten-free?

Like all of Hoplark’s Hopteas, The Green Tea One is completely gluten-free. It’s made from carbonated water, hops, and organic green tea, none of which contain gluten.

Is Hoplark HopTea The Green Tea One vegan?

According to Hoplark’s website, The Green Tea One is vegan-certified. Unfortunately, they don’t provide any information about which organization provides the vegan-friendly label, so we’re not 100% sure what the certification process entails.

That said, based on the ingredients (carbonated water, hops, and organic green tea), we feel confident saying that The Green Tea One contains zero animal-based products or byproducts.

Is Hoplark HopTea fermented?

Hoplark does not ferment any of its hop teas.
