I enjoy whiskey (or whisky) from time to time, usually drinking it with ice or mixed with coca cola. As I started to cut down on alcohol, my search for a good tasting zero alcohol whiskey has led me to several non-alcoholic whiskey options, including Monday Zero Alcohol Whiskey.
Monday’s non-alcoholic spirits caught my eye with their premium packaging, and I’ve already done a review of their Monday Zero Alcohol Gin (which was one of the better non-alcoholic gins I’ve tasted).
Here are my tasting notes in this Monday Zero Alcohol Whiskey review.
A Quick Look At Monday Zero Alcohol Whiskey
Monday Zero Alcohol Whiskey is an alcohol-free whiskey inspired by American classics and handcrafted in small batches by Monday’s award-winning Bourbon maker.
This non-alcoholic whiskey is meant to have notes of butterscotch, raisin, and toasted brown sugar on the nose, and roasted coffee, rich caramel, and warm molasses on the palate. It is also vegan, gluten-free, and suitable for a keto diet.
It is unclear from the website how Monday Zero Alcohol Whiskey is produced, since the company does not disclose much aside from the fact that it takes place at their distillery.

Monday Zero Alcohol Whiskey Review
Looks & Aroma
On the nose, the first sniff does not remind me of whiskey, instead it smells more like a bourbon.
I can smell sweet notes of dates and caramel, as well as the presence of cinnamon. It smells more herbal and fruity than the traditional oak smell that comes from aging in an oak barrel.
In a glass, it looks similar to whiskey but with a darker brown. A lighter golden brown would have made it look closer to real whiskey.
Taste: Neat
Drinking it straight from the bottle, my first thoughts was that this did not taste like whiskey and I don’t think anyone will mistake it as real whiskey either.
The body is quite watery and there is an overwhelming spicy back-of-the-throat burn that reminds me of a spicy aftertaste after eating jalapeno or a black pepper dish. The burn does dissipate after a while, but not quite like alcohol.
I can taste the traditional warm caramel and dark chocolate notes, but I am missing the woodiness and smokey oak taste that I get from aged whiskey.
There is also a hit of sourness on the initial sip that you would get from a touch of lemon, which isn’t a flavor I would typically get from whiskey. That sourness really throws me off the loop here.
To be fair, it looks like Monday isn’t recommending that we drink the whiskey neat. Unlike their gin and mezcal, which they actually mention can be served with ice or drunk by itself, I believe this zero-alcohol whiskey is meant to be a mixer for a mocktail.
Taste: On Ice
On the ice, the flavors start to get lost, and the drink becomes more watery. The warm caramel is significantly reduced, while the lemon notes get even more pronounced.
One thing that did not get lost in the ice is the back-of-the-throat spicy burn, which persists even after getting diluted with ice. It still feels too overpowering and I almost want to cough it out.
Monday Zero Alcohol Whiskey Ingredients

Monday Zero Alcohol Whiskey Calories
Just like Monday Zero Alcohol Gin, Monday Zero Alcohol Whiskey has zero sugar and zero calories. If you’re looking for an alcohol-free beverage that is suitable for diabetics and those on weight loss diets, this whiskey-alternative is a good drink option.

Final Verdict Of Monday Zero Alcohol Whiskey
If you’re looking for an exact whiskey replica, you’re not going to get that same whiskey taste and experience with Monday Zero Alcohol Whiskey. In fact, the bottle label is the only thing that will remind you that you’re drinking a whiskey-alternative.
However, I prefer to judge a non-alcoholic spirit on its own merits because a non-alcoholic whiskey will never be able to fully replicate the loss of 20%-40% alcohol in a traditional whiskey.
With the flavor notes and mouthfeel, I found that Monday Zero Alcohol Whiskey has a nice warm caramel taste and dark chocolate notes.
But, the citrus sourness is too pronounced and the body is too thin and watery for my liking. The spicy burn was also overwhelmingly spicy and unnecessary.
I definitely would not drink this neat, but instead, I would use it as a mixer with coca cola, a ginger beer, or other mocktails. Overall, I think I would buy it to mix with cocktails, but I won’t buy it to drink it neat like I usually would with whiskey.
Best For:
- If you’re looking for a good whiskey alternative as a mixer
Not Recommended For:
- Those who don’t want the back-of-the-throat burn
