There are a lot of things we loved about visiting Estonia: the picturesque landscapes, the food, and the non-alcoholic craft beers. In this Ollenaut Kaineken Pale Ale review, we’ll take you on a flavorful journey through the heart of this alcohol-free brew, uncovering its distinct characteristics, flavors, and share where you can buy it from the UK.

A Quick Look At Ollenaut Kaineken Pale Ale

Ollenaut Kaineken Pale Ale is a non-alcoholic pale ale from Estonian craft brewery Õllenaut. Õllenaut Brewery has won several awards for its beers, and this pale ale has won the Bronze winner of World Beer Awards’ Best Pale Low Alcohol 2020 (Estonia).

The beer is crafted using a unique yeast and a pasteurization process. This combination allows Õllenaut to produce alcohol-free beers that preserve the genuine beer flavors and aromas. This method stands apart from the conventional approach of post-production alcohol removal, which can frequently yield a thin or flat “alcohol-free” taste.

Õllenaut is one of the pioneering craft breweries in Estonia, and what sets them apart is that they use local ingredients. That includes ingredients such as Estonian rye malt and Estonian wild hops.

Recommended Beer Glass: We recommend drinking Ollenaut Kaineken Pale Ale with a pint glass. Pint glass has a cylindrical glass shape and this versatile glass type is often used in pubs and bars to serve different beer types, including Pale Ales.

Looks & Aroma

Ollenaut Kaineken Pale Ale pours a slightly hazy straw yellow with a thin foam head. The carbonation is lively, with lots of visible bubbles.

On the nose, we can smell notes of tropical fruits and pine from the Mosaic hops. There is a subtle malt sweetness to balance the aromas.

Taste

Right off the first sip, we are hit with a strong punch of hops. There is a strong taste of citrus, pine, and grassiness, but the star of this beer belongs to the aggressive hop bitterness. I’m not sure what IBU (International Bitterness Units) this pale ale has, but it is definitely high on the bitterness scale.

There is an unexpected lingering malt sweetness after each finish, maybe to counteract the harsh lingering bitterness.

On the palate, the beer feels convincing with the body and mouthfeel. It tastes full-bodied with a lively carbonation.

Final Verdict Of Our Ollenaut Kaineken Pale Ale Review

Overall, this non-alcoholic IPA impressed us with its flavor profile and mouthfeel. You can really taste the reason why it won the Silver medal at the World Beer Awards competition.

If I could make some changes, it would be to reduce the lingering sweetness and harsh bitterness. I personally found the beer too bitter for my liking, but Audrey found it palatable.

Great For: Those who love bitter, hoppy IPAs

Not Recommended For: People who don’t like some sweetness in their beers
