Brewed by one of the world’s largest brewing companies, Carlsberg 0.0 is the zero alcohol beer modeled after the original Carlsberg pilsner-style lager.

I recently came across Carlsberg 0.0% Pilsner, and here is my review of the Danish alcohol-free lager. I’m not usually a big fan of supermarket non-alcoholic beers, but let’s see if this will change my mind.

Looks

The beer pours a light golden amber color with barely noticeable foam head. It reminded me of pouring light apple juice with its color and lack of head.

Aroma

There is a bready malt aroma and the smell isn’t overpowering. I couldn’t really detect any other smells other than the malt.

Taste

Overall, Carlsberg 0.0 is a malty non-alcoholic beer with a refreshing crispness. The beer had a nice bready malt backbone with a subtle hops taste and bitterness.

I like that the body is not syrupy sweet, plus the dry finish made this a really enjoyable lager for a nice hot day. It might not feel like a full-bodied NA beer, but neither is the original Carlsberg.

The mouthfeel is also pleasantly surprising. The carbonation didn’t feel too strong like carbonated water or a soda, and I really couldn’t tell that it was a non-alcoholic beer with its smoothness.

Carlsberg 0.0% Calories

According to the Carlsberg website, Carlsberg 0.0% has 14 calories per 100ml serving. If you’re looking for a low calorie non-alcoholic beer, then Carlsberg 0.0% is a great option.

The Carlsberg 0.0 brewing process is simple – Carlsberg brews the 0.0 with the same brewing ingredients as the alcoholic version, then they remove the alcohol at the end.

Carlsberg does add sugar and natural flavourings to the 0.0, which I’m not a fan of in all honesty. If you’re looking for low-sugar non-alcoholic beers, then check out my recommended four non-alcoholic beers that are suitable for diabetics.

Final Verdict Of My Carlsberg 0.0 Review

As a mass-market lager, Carlsberg 0.0% not going to be the talk of the town with craft beer lovers. Their slogan “Probably the best beer in the world” is very much a stretch, although I did find it to be adequately average.

It does taste very similar to the alcoholic version so kudos to Carlsberg for that. I would have really struggled to tell the difference between the non-alcoholic version and the original.

However, I would have preferred if the sugar level was much lower and if they didn’t add natural flavorings.

Great For:

  • If you’re looking for an affordable non-alcoholic beer that does not taste offensive
  • Those who like light and crisp lagers

Not Recommended For:

  • If you prefer more hoppy flavors or bitterness
  • If you’re avoiding added sugar or natural flavorings in your drinks

Where to buy Carlsberg 0.0%
