Remember the days when the only non-alcoholic drink options available were water or club sodas? It’s amazing how far we’ve come with alcohol-free alternatives, especially the rise in non-alcoholic spirits.
This time, I’m excited to review Free Spirits The Spirit of Tequila. I’ve always been a Tequila fan, and I’ve had some of the best Tequilas while living in Mexico.
This Tequila was impressive, and I felt that it comes close enough to a traditional Tequila (with some notable differences, of course).
Read below as I share my full tasting notes in this Free Spirits Tequila review and where to buy it.
A Quick Look At Free Spirits The Spirit Of Tequila
Free Spirits is a non-alcoholic spirits company from California and they create non-alcoholic alternatives to popular spirits, including Bourbon, Gin, and Tequila.
This non-alcoholic Tequila is inspired by Reposado Tequilas – a type of Tequila that is aged between two months and up to one year in steel or oak barrels.
It is made using a process called Distillate Reconstruction, where the ingredients are distilled to extract their essence, then reconstructed to create the aroma notes, flavor notes, and mouthfeel of the original spirits.
It is also infused with vitamins B3, B6, and natural Aminos like Taurine, which apparently has mood-enhancing properties.

Free Spirits Tequila Review
Looks
Free Spirits Tequila pours a light golden hue, similar to what you would expect from some Tequilas.
Aroma
The aroma instantly reminds me of Tequila, but a diluted version of Tequila without the pungent smell of alcohol.
I get aroma notes of the sweet agave, a light lemon sourness, and some smokiness.
Taste: Neat
Free Spirits doesn’t recommend drinking their non-alcoholic spirits neat, and I can absolutely see why after taking my first sip.
The first thing that hits is the spicy, peppery sensation that burns the throat. Not all non-alcoholic spirits add an artificial burn to mimic alcohol, but this NA Tequila does. I don’t mind the spiciness, even if it resembles spicy food rather than an alcohol burn.
As for the flavors, it resembles a mix of light lemon juice with agave syrup and smoke. I can see how it is trying to mimic regular Tequila.
The body is thin and watery, as expected because alcohol is what gives traditional Tequila its full-bodied mouthfeel.
Taste: On The Rocks
After adding some ice cubes, the intensity of the flavors and spiciness becomes lighter and less pronounced. However, it almost feels even more watery and thin.
Free Spirits Tequila Ingredients
Free Spirits Tequila is made from water, natural flavor, sugar, D-Ribose, citric acid, sodium citrate, taurine, niacin (vitamin B3), potassium sorbate (as preservative), fruit and vegetable juice (for color), pyridoxine (vitamin B6).

Final Verdict Of Our Free Spirits Tequila Review
I’ve missed my Tequila-based cocktails, so it’s nice to enjoy a taste that resembles Tequila again. The aroma is close enough to Tequila, and I love the scent of the agave and smokiness.
While some people might not appreciate the added spiciness in non-alcoholic spirits, I find that it enhances the experience of drinking a non-alcoholic Tequila.
The flavors are enjoyable both on the rocks or mixed with another drink like tonic water, even if it doesn’t exactly replicate the taste of regular Tequila. It’s close enough for me to savor a Tequila-based mocktail.
Here’s my advice: if you’re seeking the exact experience of an alcoholic Tequila, Free Spirits Tequila might disappoint you.
Like many alcohol-free Tequilas, the absence of alcohol is noticeable, and the body and flavor profile won’t exactly match a traditional Tequila.
Approach it with this knowledge, and you’ll likely enjoy the drink a lot more.

The earthy taste and long smooth burn make this a good Tequila-alternative. It doesn't fully replicate a Tequila, but it comes close enough to be enjoyed on the rocks or as a mixer.
